WASHINGTON – After months of working with Base Command at Fort Detrick, the Department of Defense, and the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) announced today that a Federal Facilities Agreement (FFA) to remediate the Superfund sites that are located at Fort Detrick has been signed.

Maryland Senator Ben Cardin is outraged and says the federal government should begin its cleanup immediately.

"The first thing to do is make sure it's safe.  We don't want anyone living or working where it's not safe," Cardin said.  "The federal government has to take responsibility."

Army tested 17 pounds of Agent Orange chemical on sections of Fort Detrick

The Army sprayed about 17 pounds of a main Agent Orange ingredient on sections of Fort Detrick between 1944 and 1968, an official announced at a meeting Wednesday night.
